The training

August 6 to 8, 2026 · 9:00am to 6:00pm CDT

Full three-day schedule

Your companion for the three days: the frame set-ups you will practice each afternoon, the background that opens each morning, and note sheets for practicum. Everything here prints, and everything reads on a phone, whether you are in the room in Bloomington or joining on Zoom.

Culture comes before science
Spirituality comes before science
“Culture comes before science” came to David during the training in Korea, and both phrases have become central to these BIPOC trainings. Brainspotting is a global model. It takes Western science into account, but it is not delimited by it.
We are cultural beings. Brainspotting is oriented toward sensory experience, in our current lives and in our ancestors: sound, movement, smell, taste, and what the body holds.
So read the frame set-ups here as a sequence, not as the whole of what happens in the room. What each of us carries arrives first.
The human experience can never be narrowed down.

Before we start

What to bring

A pointer. Any light wand or slim stick works. If you do not have one, say so on day one and we will sort you out.
Your Phase 4 manual and something to write with. The practicum sheets here can be printed or typed into.
Water and a snack. Days run 9:00am to 6:00pm CDT with a 75 minute lunch break. Registration opens 8:30am on day one.
Somewhere private for practicum, if you are joining on Zoom, plus headphones.
Practicum

Taking care of yourself

You will take turns as therapist and as client, and the material you bring as client is real. Choose something that matters to you but that you are willing to have moved in a room full of colleagues.
You set the pace. You can slow down, change what you are working on, or stop, and your partner will follow you. Nothing has to be finished by the end of the round.
Facilitators circulate through every practicum. Raise a hand, or message SooNa on Zoom, and someone will come and sit with you.
What happens in a practicum pair stays between you. Bring the frame set-up to the debrief, not your partner's story.
