Joining on Zoom
Before you start
Phase 4 runs three long days and every afternoon ends in practicum. A few minutes of frame set-up now makes the eye work easier and keeps you from scrambling mid-session. SooNa and the other facilitators are on Zoom throughout: anything that breaks, or anything you need mid-session, put it in the chat.
Zoom link
The same link works all three days.
Your screen and camera
Camera on, whole face visible
Your trainer and practicum partner need to see your eyes, so frame yourself from the chest up with the camera near eye level. Attendance is taken and cameras stay on.
Sit back from the screen
An arm’s length or more. Your eyes need room to travel to the edges of your visual field and beyond the screen.
Light on your face, not behind you
A window or lamp in front of you. Backlight turns you into a silhouette and hides every reflexive response.
Use the biggest screen you have
A laptop or monitor rather than a phone, and close everything else. Full screen on the speaker view during demonstrations.
Within arm’s reach
A pointer, or something that works like one
A telescoping pointer, a pen, a chopstick, a wooden spoon. Bodyspotting on Day 3 uses a pointer pressed against your own body, so bring something with a blunt end.
Water, tissues, something warm
Long days of processing. A blanket or sweater matters more than people expect.
Paper and pen, or the note sheets
The practicum sheets are typable or printable:
phase-4-practicum. Writing by hand keeps you off the screen between rounds.
The handouts open on a second device
Phone or tablet beside you in reading view, so the frame set-up steps stay visible while Zoom holds your screen.
If you get flooded
Say so, out loud, early
Online, nobody can see what the room would show. Tell your partner or type in the chat. Stopping is always available to you.
Come off the spot
Look away, put both feet on the floor, find something in the room that is neutral. Activation drops when the eyes leave the spot.
Ask for a resource frame
Your partner can move to a Body Resource and a resource spot instead of the activation. Phase 1 and Phase 2 both carry those frame set-ups:
Phase 1,
Phase 2.
Reach a facilitator
Message SooNa or any of the facilitators in the Zoom chat at any point, or flag one of us in person if you are in the room. A facilitator is watching throughout and will come to you. Care comes before completing the exercise.
In the room in Bloomington? Most of this still applies, minus the camera. Bring a pointer, something warm, and water, and flag any of the facilitators if you need something during the day.
